In 1950 Uzi Gal, Engineer for the Industries Military of Israel, invented a very effective automatic pistol. Becoming known as the 'UZI', in 1951, this weapon was adopted for use by israeli troops. The development of an industry of defence has allowed Israel to be free from international pressures. Today the Uzi is the 2nd generation machine gun and increasing demand has meant that it is sold in over 40 countries, with worldwide sales of over 1.5 million pieces.
