The first models of the real Colt AR15 rifle (a descendent of the M16) were tested in 1958 and 1960. Colt received its first US Air Force order of 8,500 AR15s plus 1,000 for the Department of Defense in 1962. Later the M16A1 equipped all the American armed forces. This model had many advantages; lightness, manageability, precision, and stability during automatic shooting.
